V/Line celebrates 10 years of supporting regional youth through the Beacon Foundation
This year V/Line celebrates 10 years of supporting the Beacon Foundation, a national not-for-profit organisation that has been working with schools, businesses and communities for more than 35 years.
Beacon aims to inspire young people to think about careers and experience the workplace, long before leaving school. It believes socio-economic background or geography should not determine the education or career opportunities young people have in life.
V/Line commenced its long-standing community partnership with Beacon Foundation in 2013, supporting High-Impact Programs like Polish, offering students in Years 9-10 a full day program focused on confidence building and promoting skills to future employers.
Beacon CEO Scott Harris said the decade-long partnership had been critical to Beacon empowering youth in regional Victoria.
“We are excited to mark a decade of partnership with V/Line, which has been instrumental in expanding Beacon's reach to young individuals in regional Victoria,” Scott said.
“Thanks to V/Line's support, we can provide more opportunities for these youth to participate in our programs.
“As a result, we empower more young Australians to confidently transition to further education, training, or employment after completing their schooling.”
As part of the partnership, volunteers from across V/Line participate in valuable mentoring sessions held at regional schools.
“The contribution of V/Line staff who volunteer at Beacon Programs is invaluable,” Scott said.
“Our volunteers play a vital role in enhancing the impact of our programs by sharing their knowledge, career stories and experiences with young participants.
“Through their guidance, these young individuals gain a deeper understanding of the working world.”.
V/Line CEO Matt Carrick emphasised the importance of V/Line’s community partnerships, which focus on uplifting and improving the lives of regional youth.
“V/Line is proud to partner with Beacon Foundation in helping support the aspirations, motivations and abilities of young people to determine their working future,” Matt said.
“It means a lot to our people across the organisation to be engaged in these important community initiatives.”
