Temporary timetables on the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines

6 Mar - 31 Mar 2025

Temporary speed restrictions will be in place on sections of the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines when trains return on Thursday 6 March until Monday 31 March.

This is to allow the tracks to bed down following major maintenance and upgrade works. 

Service changes include:

Bendigo Line

The following weekday trains will depart early:

- The 5.36am Eaglehawk to Southern Cross train will depart from each station 3 minutes earlier
- The 6.20am Eaglehawk to Southern Cross train will depart from each station 4 minutes earlier 
- The 6.44am Epsom to Southern Cross train will depart from each station 5 minutes earlier
- The 7.49am Bendigo to Southern Cross train will depart from each station 1 minute earlier 
- The weekday 6.30am Bendigo to Epsom train will depart 5 minutes earlier at 6.25am 

All Bendigo trains will have extended journey times of of to 20 minutes.

Swan Hill Line 

- The weekday 1.35pm Swan Hill to Southern Cross train will depart 15 minutes earlier from Swan Hill, Kerang, Pyramid, Dingee, Raywood and Eaglehawk
- The Sunday 6.54am Swan Hill to Southern Cross train will depart 8 minutes earlier from Swan Hill, Kerang, Pyramid, Dingee, Raywood and Eaglehawk

Swan Hill trains will have extended journey times of of up 20 minutes.

Echuca Line 

There are no early departures on the Echuca Line, however, all trains will have extended journey times of up to 20 minutes.

Coaches replace evening trains on the Bendigo Line

23 Mar - 25 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

Due to V/Line maintenance works, coaches replace evening trains on the Bendigo Line for the entire journey from Sunday 23 to Tuesday 25 March.

Sunday 23 March

From Southern Cross Station:
From 8.30pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Bendigo for the entire journey.
 
From Bendigo:
The 9pm service will be replaced by coaches to Southern Cross for the entire journey.

Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 March

From Southern Cross Station:
From 8pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Bendigo/Epsom/Eaglehawk for the entire journey.
 
From Bendigo/Epsom:
From 7.30pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Southern Cross for the entire journey.

Please allow an additional 60 minutes’ travel time for your journey.

Additional weekend services will run from Bendigo to Southern Cross to help meet increasing demand.

Arriving at Southern Cross at 11.51am

Drainage and pruning works along the Echuca Line

20 Jan - 31 Mar 2025

V/Line is completing drainage and vegetation works at different locations in the rail corridor between Goornang and Echuca from Monday 20 January to late March. 

Drainage works at each location should take approximately 4 days and will take place Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 7.00pm. 

Vegetation pruning will begin mid February and last for approximately three weeks. Works will take place between 7.00am and 7.00pm each day.

What to be aware of

There will be an increase in workers, machinery and heavy vehicles in each area. Please observe all safety signage in place.

Wakeman Road level crossing closure

20 Jan - 31 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line is carrying out maintenance and drainage works near Huntly Station from Monday 20 January to late March. Works will take place Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 7.00pm.

While work is completed the Wakeman Road level crossing will be closed. Access to Huntly Station will be via the Waratah/Tuckers Road side of Wakeman Road only.

Traffic detours will be in place.

There will be reduced parking at Huntly Station. 

Passengers should allow extra travel time.

Works at Clarkefield Station

17 Feb - 30 Mar 2025

V/Line is carrying out important works from Monday 17 February to Sunday 30 March to improve accessibility at the station, including replacing the ticket counter and building ramps. 

Changes at the station

Platform access will only be available through outside entrances. The waiting room and toilets will be closed, and the station will be unstaffed.

Reduced parking 

There will be reduced parking while works takes place. Passengers are advised to consider parking at other stationsor travelling to the station on a local bus.

Limited myki access

The station entrance myki card vending machine will be unavailable. You can use the myki machine on Platform 2 to top up your myki, but you can’t purchase a new myki card.

Passengers travelling on long distance services can purchase their tickets via the V/Line website or by calling 1800 800 007.

Night works on the Bendigo Line

23 Mar - 26 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line is carrying out important track maintenance works from Sunday 23 March to Wednesday 26 March.

Crews will complete ballast replacement and tamping works between Sunbury and Gisborne during the following times:

• Sunday 23 to Tuesday 25 March - 8.45pm to 5.00am
• Wednesday 26 March - midnight to 4.30am

Coaches replace Warrnambool Line trains

31 Mar - 13 Apr 2025

Due to V/Line annual maintenance and infrastructure works, coaches replace trains on the Warrnambool Line for the entire journey from Monday 31 March to Sunday 13 April.

Coaches replace trains between Warrnambool and Southern Cross for the entire journey.

Coaches replace Geelong Line trains for all or part of the journey

Geelong line

Due to V/Line annual maintenance and infrastructure works, coaches replace trains on the Geelong Line for all or part of the journey from Monday 31 March to Tuesday 15 April.

Monday 31 March to Saturday 12 April

Coaches replace all trains between Waurn Ponds and Wyndham Vale. Trains will run between Wyndham Vale and Southern Cross.

Sunday 13 April

To Southern Cross
Until 9.00pm - coaches replace trains between Waurn Ponds and Wyndham Vale. Trains will run between Wyndham Vale and Southern Cross.

From 9.00pm to last service – coaches replace trains between Southern Cross and Waurn Ponds for the entire journey.

Until 9.00pm - coaches replace trains between Wyndham Vale and Waurn Ponds. Trains will run between Southern Cross and Wyndham Vale.

Extra travel time:

Colac Station upgrade works

26 Feb 2025

Geelong line

We are completing important inspections and maintenance at Colac Station from Wednesday 26 February.

While works are completed, the station building and facilities will be closed, and car parking spaces reduced.

A temporary ticket office, toilets and waiting room will be open for use during this time. 

Works will take place between 7.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays as required.

Track maintenance and upgrade works between North Shore and North Geelong

3 Mar - 17 Apr 2025

Geelong line

V/Line crews will carry out track maintenance and upgrade works between North Shore and North Geelong stations from Monday 3 March to Thursday 17 April. 

Crews will complete track inspections and turnout renewal works, including ballast replacement and tamping. These works will ensure we provide a vital connection for passengers on the Geelong Line.

Track maintenance and level crossing upgrade works in Lara and Little River

31 Mar - 11 Apr 2025

Geelong line

V/Line is carrying out essential level crossing upgrades and track maintenance on the Geelong Line between Lara and Little River from Monday 31 March.

Level crossing upgrades

The McClelland Avenue level crossing in Lara will be closed from Monday 31 March until Friday 11 April.

The Cherry Swamp Road level crossing in Little River will be closed from Monday 31 March until Friday 4 April.

Detours will be in place and localised traffic management used as required. Please allow extra time when moving through the area.


Track maintenance works

Crews will move progressively along the line between Lara and Little River to inspect and load ballast for mudhole removal and tamping from Monday 31 March to Friday 11 April. Works will be completed during the day from 7am to  5pm and at night between 8pm and 6am.

Due the nature of these works, there will be a high level of construction noise, additional lighting and dust.

Car park changes at Geelong Station

31 Mar - 13 Apr 2025

Geelong line

Due to  V/Line maintenance works on the Geelong Tunnel from late March to mid-April, there will be changes to pedestrian access and car parking at Geelong Station.

These works will ensure that the tunnel continues to provide a vital connection for passengers on the Geelong Line.

The works will take place around the clock from Monday 31 March to Sunday 13 April.

What to be aware of

There may be construction noise and dust from the use of excavation equipment and the movement of heavy machinery. 

Roads will not be closed, but localised traffic management will be in place as required for community and worker safety.

Equipment, materials and machinery will be stored at Geelong Station, with a section of the car park used as the laydown area.

Car parking will be reduced by approximately 100 car parks from 8.00pm Thursday 27 March until last service Sunday 13 April.

Coaches replace trains on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines

21 Mar - 30 Mar 2025

Gippsland line

Due to Gippsland Line Upgrade works, there will be service changes on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines from first service Friday 21 March until last service Sunday 30 March.

Friday 21 to Friday 28 March

Coaches replace trains between East Pakenham, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.

Passengers will travel on a Pakenham Line metropolitan train between East Pakenham and the city.

Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March

Coaches replace trains for the entire journey between Southern Cross, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.

Replacement coaches will not stop at Flinders Street, Richmond, Clayton and Berwick stations.

Works on the Traralgon Line

Gippsland line

V/Line is completing track maintenance works between Nar Nar Goon, Moe and Tragalgon stations on Saturday 29 March from 6pm until 2am and on Sunday 30 March from 8am until 3pm.

There may be increased noise in some locations as track machinery moves along sections of the line.

Albury Line Service Changes

Due to Australian Rail Track Corporation works, there will be changes to arrival and departure times for some Albury Line trains from Tuesday 25 March to Wednesday 30 April.

Due to V/Line maintenance works, coaches replace evening Seymour Line trains from Sunday 6 to Wednesday 9 April.

The 9.45pm service to Seymour will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 April

From Southern Cross Station:
The 9.43pm service to Seymour will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
 
From Seymour:
The 9.56pm service to Southern Cross will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

Replacement coaches will be a mix of express and stopping all stations services.
Coaches will not stop at Essendon Station.
