Temporary train timetable on the Echuca Line

11 Feb - 21 Feb 2025

Due to track upgrade works, temporary speed restrictions will be in place on the Echuca Line from Tuesday 11 February to Friday 21 February.

Trains will run at slower than normal speeds on a section of the line to allow the tracks to bed down.

Trains will depart 5 minutes earlier so please plan ahead and check the temporary train timetable before you travel.

Changes to some Epsom services

Bendigo line

There will be changes to some Epsom services from Tuesday 11 February to Friday 21 February.

The following trains to Melbourne will depart Epsom Station 5 minutes earlier – please note these early departures apply to Epsom Station only. Trains will run to the usual timetable from Bendigo Station onwards:

Due to V/Line annual maintenance works, coaches replace Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill Line trains for the entire journey from Saturday 22 February to Wednesday 5 March.

Please be advised that V/Line coach replacements will arrive and depart from the coach stop outside of Huntly IGA at 4/619 Midland Hwy, Huntly VIC 3551.

Drainage and pruning works along the Echuca Line

20 Jan - 31 Mar 2025

V/Line is completing drainage and vegetation works at different locations in the rail corridor between Goornang and Echuca from Monday 20 January to late March. 

Drainage works at each location should take approximately 4 days and will take place Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 7.00pm. 

Vegetation pruning will begin mid February and last for approximately three weeks. Works will take place between 7.00am and 7.00pm each day.

What to be aware of

There will be an increase in workers, machinery and heavy vehicles in each area. Please observe all safety signage in place.

Wakeman Road level crossing closure

20 Jan - 31 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line is carrying out maintenance and drainage works near Huntly Station from Monday 20 January to late March. Works will take place Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 7.00pm.

While work is completed the Wakeman Road level crossing will be closed. Access to Huntly Station will be via the Waratah/Tuckers Road side of Wakeman Road only.

Traffic detours will be in place.

Reduced parking at Huntly Station
There will be reduced parking at Huntly Station. 

Passengers should allow extra travel time.

Car park changes at Bendigo Station

8 Feb - 6 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line is carrying out maintenance works in the Railway Place car park at Bendigo Station from Saturday 8 February until Thursday 6 March.

During this time there will be changes to car parking at the station. 
 
80 car spaces will be closed from Saturday 8 February until Sunday 16 February.

45 car spaces will be closed from Sunday 16 February until Thursday 6 March.

Car spaces are available in the V/Line car park in McLaren Street.
 
Passengers should allow extra travel time.

Signage and wayfinding will be located around the station to help you understand these changes and access the station safely.

Castlemaine bridge works

10 Feb - 10 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line crews will carry out bridge maintenance and upgrade works in Castlemaine from Monday 10 February to Monday 10 March. 

What we are doing

V/Line is completing necessary maintenance on the historic Midland Highway and Forest Creek bridges in Castlemaine. These works will ensure both bridges continue to provide a vital connection for passengers on the Bendigo Line.

Works schedule
 

Monday 10 February to Saturday 22 February	Day works only – between 6.00am and 6.00pm
Sunday 23 February to Tuesday 25 February	Day and night works – around the clock
Wednesday 26 February to Monday 10 March	Day works only - between 6.00am and 6.00pm

What to be aware of 

There will be regular movement of heavy machinery and trucks, and a significant amount of dust is expected at the work sites.

There will also be a high level of construction noise during the day and when night works are completed from Sunday 23 February to Tuesday 25 February.

Midland Highway bridge - road closure

21 Feb - 3 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line is carrying out bridge maintenance and upgrade works at the Midland Highway bridge in Castlemaine.

From 6.00am Friday 21 February until 6.00pm Monday 3 March, the underpass will be closed to motorists and pedestrians.

Detours will be in place and localised traffic management used as required. Please allow extra time when moving through the area.

Upgrade works at Gisborne Station

22 Feb - 4 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line crews will carry out maintenance and upgrade works at Gisborne Station from 22 February to 4 March.

What we are doing

Crews will work around the clock to upgrade the existing culvert at Gisborne Station. A culvert is a structure located underneath the railway tracks that allows water to flow freely from one side to another preventing flooding and damage.

Works will include:

• Culvert inspections and repairs
• Level crossing surface renewal
• Drainage upgrade works

What to be aware of

During day and night works, there will be construction noise and dust generated due to the use of excavation equipment and the movement of machinery.

On 27 February, there will be significant levels of noise during the day between 11am and 6pm due to tamping and compacting works taking place.

Works during the night will also require additional lighting used around the site.

Roads around the station will not be closed, but there will be delays of up to five minutes at the level crossing at Station Road, Gisborne. Local detours and signage will be in place as required for community and worker safety.

The car park on platform 1 side of the station (accessed via Station Road) will be closed during these works for temporary staff facilities and to move machinery. Customers are advised to park on the platform 2 side of the station (accessed via Early Street).

Upgrade works near Nolan Street, Bendigo

22 Feb - 5 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line crews will carry out maintenance and upgrade works near Nolan Street in Bendigo from 22 February to 5 March.

What are we doing

Crews will work around the clock to complete track and turnout renewal works to maintain the structural integrity of the line. Works will include turnout renewlas, track inspections, formation works and handrail installation.

What to be aware of

During round the clock works, there will be construction noise and dust generated due to the use of excavation equipment and the movement of machinery.

Works during the night will also require additional lighting around the site.

There will be significant levels of noise during the night on Wednesday 26 February from 7pm to 7am due to tamping and compacting works taking place.

Due to handrail installation works, the footpath accessible via Nolan Street will be temporarily closed to pedestrians from 24 February until 28 February, reopening on 1 March. There will be signage and detours in place.

Works along the Bendigo Line

23 Feb - 2 Mar 2025

Bendigo line

V/Line crews will carry out maintenance and upgrade works at various parts along the Bendigo Line while coaches are replacing trains along the line.

What we are doing

Crews will move progressively along the line to inspect and load ballast for mudhole removal works starting near Woodend Station on 23 February and finishing in Bendigo on 2 March.

During this time, the following level crossings will be closed at various locations to allow crews to complete important upgrade works.

• 7am to 5pm, 22 February: Parker Street, Castlemaine
• 7am 27 February until 4pm 28 February: Reillys Road and Quinns Road, Woodvale
• 7am to 4pm, 28 February: Potts Road, Taradale
• 7am to 4pm, 1 March: Ritchies Road, Kyneton

Traffic management, signage and diversions will be in place. Residents should allow extra time when traveling through the area. Note that the Parker Street, Castlemaine level crossing will still be accessible by pedestrians.

What to be aware of

During day and night works, there will be construction noise and dust generated due to the use of excavation equipment and the movement of machinery.

There will be no extra lighting used during these works, however vehicles operating at night will have their headlights and flashing visibility lights on.

The temporary closure of the level crossings will mean there will be traffic management, detours and signage in place during those times.

Colac Station upgrade works

26 Feb 2025

Geelong line

We are completing important inspections and maintenance at Colac Station from Wednesday 26 February.

While works are completed, the station building and facilities will be closed, and car parking spaces reduced.

A temporary ticket office, toilets and waiting room will be open for use during this time. 

Works will take place between 7.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays as required.

Coaches replace some Gippsland Line trains

Due to V/Line maintenance and Metro works, coaches replace some Gippsland Line trains for all or part of the journey at various times from Friday 21 February to Sunday 2 March.
 

Friday 21 February	From Southern Cross Station: From 8pm to last service – coaches replace trains to East Pakenham. From Traralgon: The 7.38pm service will be replaced by coaches from East Pakenham to Southern Cross. The 6.53pm and 8.24pm services will be replaced by coaches to Southern Cross for the entire journey.   From Bairnsdale: The 6.06pm Bairnsdale to Southern Cross service will be replaced by coaches from East Pakenham to Southern Cross.
Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February	Coaches replace all trains between Southern Cross and East Pakenham. From 9pm to last service on Sunday 23 February, coaches will replace Southern Cross to Traralgon trains for the entire journey. Click here to view the temporary coach replacement timetable.

Coaches replace evening trains on the Gippsland Line

Coaches replace trains on the Gippsland Line each night from Sunday 16 March to Thursday 20 March.

This is due to Metro night works taking place from 16 to 19 March and Gippsland Line Upgrade works starting on Thursday 20 March. 

Sunday 16 March

From Southern Cross Station:
The 9.27pm service to Traralgon will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
 
Monday 17 to Wednesday 19 March
 
From Southern Cross Station:
From 9.30pm to last service – coaches replace trains from Southern Cross to East Pakenham.

From Traralgon:
The 6.53pm service will be replaced by coaches from Traralgon to Southern Cross for the entire journey.

The 7.38pm and 8.24pm services will be replaced by coaches from East Pakenham to Southern Cross.

From Bairnsdale:
The 6.06pm service to Southern Cross will be replaced by coaches from East Pakenham to Southern Cross.

Gippsland line

Due to Gippsland Line Upgrade works, there will be service changes on the Gippsland Line from first service Friday 21 March until last service Sunday 30 March.

Friday 21 to Friday 28 March

Coaches replace Gippsland Line trains between Bairnsdale, Traralgon and East Pakenham.

Passengers travelling to and from the city should catch a Metro Trains Pakenham Line service.

The temporary timetable for Gippsland 20 – 28 March will be available to view shortly.

Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March

Coaches replace Gippsland Line trains between Bairnsdale, Traralgon and Southern Cross for the entire journey.

Replacement coaches will not stop at Flinders Street, Richmond, Clayton and Berwick stations.

The temporary coach replacement timetable for Gippsland 29 – 30 March will be available to view shortly.

Albury Line service changes

3 Mar - 8 Mar 2025

Due to Inland Rail works, coaches replace Albury Line trains for the entire journey on Monday 3 March.
 
From Tuesday 4 March to Saturday 8 March, there will be changes to arrival and departure times for some Albury Line trains.

Due to V/Line maintenance works, coaches replace evening Seymour Line trains from Sunday 9 to Wednesday 12 March.

Sunday 9 March

From Southern Cross Station:
The 9.45pm service to Seymour will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

Monday 10 March

V/Line services will run to a Saturday timetable for the Labour Day public holiday.

From Southern Cross Station:
From 9.30pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Seymour for the entire journey.

From Seymour:
The 8.27pm service to Southern Cross will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 March

From Southern Cross Station:
The 9.43pm service to Seymour will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
 
From Seymour:
From 7.30pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Southern Cross for the entire journey.


Replacement coaches will be a mix of express and stopping all stations services.
Coaches will not stop at Essendon Station.

Mansfield coach changes

17 Feb - 31 Mar 2025

Due to planned repair works on the Melba Highway near Dixons Creek, there will be changes to V/Line coach services from Monday 17 February to Monday 31 March.

Monday 17 February to Friday 21 February

Coaches will detour via Myers Creek Road Healesville, with additional journey time expected.

From Southern Cross
The 8.30am Southern Cross to Mansfield coach will depart 30 minutes later from each stop from Glenburn to Mansfield.

From Mansfield
The 1.15pm Mansfield to Southern Cross coach will depart at 2.00pm, departing from all stops 45 minutes later.

Saturday 22 February to Friday 7 March and Tuesday 11 March to Monday 31 March

Coaches will travel the normal route but will be escorted through the road works zone.

An additional 20 minutes journey time is expected on all services.

Normal traffic and coach arrangements will be in place over the Labour Day long weekend.
