If you are travelling in a group of 20+ on a V/Line train service or 12+ on a V/Line coach service, then a Group Travel ticket will make your journey simple and easy.
Groups can take advantage of a discounted ticket, and may be eligible to travel at a concession fare.
Groups of up to 19 people travelling on a V/Line train service, or up to 11 people travelling on a V/Line coach service can purchase tickets using the online
Journey Planner, from
any staffed V/Line station, the
PTV call centre, or any
premium Metro station or ticket agent.
If you are travelling in a group of 20+ on a V/Line train service or 12+ on a V/Line coach service, you must apply for Group Travel by completing the online Group Travel Application Form further down the page.
- Group Travel is subject to availability with group sizes limited to ensure the safety and comfort of all customers.
- Groups generally cannot travel on weekday peak services.
- If we can't accommodate your group on your preferred service then we may split your group or suggest alternative services.
- V/Line does not charter or supply additional coaches for groups.
- All group members must travel together, boarding and alighting at the same locations.
- Group travel isn't always possible during busy periods such as sporting events, school holidays, seniors week, public holidays and special events.
- There may be times where we are not able to cater for the booking and will advise you of any available travel alternatives.

V/Line provides Victorian preschool, kindergarten or primary school groups with free travel across the entire regional train and coach network when they meet the Group Travel eligibility.
- Excursion groups of 12 to 35 people travel for free as a group, when the entire journey on a school day is between 9.30am and 3.30pm, or after 6pm (on V/Line). On weekends, the journey can be any time.
- The group must be made up of preschool, kindergarten or primary school children and up to six accompanying adults.
- The group must carry a Travel Authority and travel together at all times.
- All Group Travel applications are subject to availability with group sizes limited to ensure the safety and comfort of all V/Line customers on those services.
- To apply for Group Travel for Victorian Early Schooling groups, complete the form under 'Apply for Group Travel' below.
If you meet the eligibility requirements, then:
- Group Travel applications open 100 days prior to the departure date; and
- Group Travel applications should be submitted 14 days prior to the departure date.
Once approved Group Travel tickets should be paid for and collected at least 48 hours prior to departure. This can be completed at your closest
V/Line station / ticket outlet by quoting your booking reference number.
You can receive a full refund if you are unable to travel as long as you apply before the departure date of your service.
- For Group Travel refunds, please call 1800 800 007 prior to your departure date.
- Group Travel tickets must be presented at a V/Line booking office or ticket agent before the departure date for a refund.
- Tickets can be presented for refund up to seven days from the cancellation date. No administration fee applies.
- Individual unused tickets cannot be presented for refund.
- Pensioner free vouchers, Seniors free travel vouchers and Family Traveller tickets cannot be used in conjunction with group travel tickets.

A number of our coach and train services have reserved seats. These services can be identified with an ’R’ (Reserved) or 'RC' (Reserved Carriage) via our
plan a journey tool. All other services are unreserved.
When travelling on an unreserved service our Group Travel Coordinator will advise if there is allocated seating available.
We endeavor to confirm and finalise group travel arrangements within 14 business days of receiving an application, however if your booking is for a service several weeks in advance this may be extended.
Groups are not able to travel with their bicycles due to limited storage space.
The total luggage limit for all V/Line services is 30 kilograms per person. With customers able to carry two items of luggage, with no one item weighing more than 20 kilograms, as well as one piece of hand luggage.
However, we may need to limit the luggage that groups bring depending on the service you are traveling on or the group size.
